Do you know how to work with car insurance after a car accident?

When you get into a car accident, stress levels are high. We get it; even if you and your passengers are uninjured, you still have to face the fact that your car probably didn't make it out of the accident intact. This means you need repairs, likely a rental car, and you're going to have to get it all taken care of via your car insurance company. Luckily, our Orlando Toyota body shop is here to walk you through what you need to do after a car accident to ensure you get your car back on the road as quickly and easily as possible.

6 steps to take after a car accident

#1: First, you need to document everything about the car accident. This means getting all of the other driver's information (name, contact info, insurance info, and vehicle info) as well as the accident report AND full traffic crash report from the agency that responded to the scene of the car accident.

#2: Next, file a claim with the car insurance company. Basically, if you were at fault for the car accident, you file with your company. If the other driver was at fault, you file with their insurance company. Remember, there is a time limit that you need to file within, so be sure to get in contact with insurance as quickly as you can.

#3: Now you should choose a repair shop (and Toyota of Orlando is a great one, just saying). Make sure your car insurance company works with them and that they can do the repairs in a timely manner. It's also a good idea to ensure that they're going to use the parts you want them to - for example, at Toyota of Orlando we only use Genuine Toyota parts to keep your Toyota a Toyota.

#4: Before you schedule repairs, you should definitely ask about your deductible and a rental car. It's good to have an idea of how much you're going to have to pay to cover your deductible and to make sure your rental car will also be covered by insurance - you don't want to have to pay out of pocket.

#5: Work with insurance to get an estimate. Insurance companies usually want to get an estimate of the damage and subsequent repairs before they'll fork over the cash, so make sure you work with the adjuster to set up a time and place for an inspection of your Orlando Toyota before you schedule repairs.

#6: Get repairs taken care of. Once you've completed steps 1-5, it's time to hit the repair shop. Schedule an appointment, make sure your rental car is all set up, and drop your car. Before you leave double-check that the body shop you chose has the insurance company's contact info and see how long it'll take to do repairs.
