Toyota of Orlando tips

Four common driving myths, busted

Myth #1: Driving with your truck's tailgate down will give you much better fuel efficiency.

As the great Dwight Schrute would say, false. A lot of people think that dropping their Orlando Toyota truck's tailgate will create better aerodynamics and make their fuel efficiency go up. Unfortunately, this driving myth is not the case. Trucks - regardless of whether the tailgate is up or down - create a pocket of air behind them that subsequently creates drag. You'd think that putting the tailgate down would let the air stream out, but it doesn't. The only way to get better MPGs is to adjust your driving habits or swap into another Orlando Toyota that's more fuel-efficient.

Myth #2: Putting premium fuel in your car will get you better MPGs.

Nope - truly a driving myth. Believe it or not, putting premium fuel in your car won't improve your performance in the least bit, and it definitely won't get you better fuel efficiency. In fact, all it'll do is drain your bank account faster because premium fuel is more expensive. However, do keep in mind that some cars actually require premium fuel - if you're unsure about whether yours does, just check the owner's manual or ask one of our Toyota of Orlando techs.

Myth #3: If you drive the speed limit, you'll hit every single green light.

A lot of drivers think that green lights are timed to ensure that if you drive the speed limit, you'll hit all of them. Not the case, friends. There are way too many other factors out on the road that would interrupt this perfect flow and put this driving myth to bed. Slow drivers, traffic, accidents, and pedestrians all put a damper on your speed so even if you do go the speed limit, it's unlikely that you'll hit all green lights. (But you should still go the speed limit, just saying.)

Myth #4: If there's a traffic jam, there must be an accident ahead.

Some people assume that if there's traffic, it's because there's an accident up ahead and delays are going to be exponential. But don't worry - that driving myth doesn't hold much water. While car accidents CAN cause traffic, so can anything else that slows drivers down. When a handful of drivers slow, so do the drivers behind them, and behind them, and so on. It creates a ripple effect that just keeps on going and by the time it hits you, things have slowed significantly.
