Toyota is renowned on a global basis for its research in the realm of safety. When you drive home an Orlando Toyota, you know that you're in good hands - you'll have the best of the best in safety technology and features. On top of that, they're stringent about testing their vehicles before they put them out on the road, and they ensure that their vehicles perform well in both NHTSA and IIHS safety testing year over year.
One test, however, that most drivers in North America (and in a lot of other countries, too) probably aren't familiar with is the Moose Test. This unique and unusual test isn't one used by both automakers, and Toyota of Orlando is here to explain why.
The Moose Test is a unique test that gauges how well your vehicle would react if a large animal - like a moose - were to cross your path on the road, leaving you in a position where you needed to get out of the way and fast. Here are some more quick facts on this unique safety test:
It's not used everywhere - in fact, it's most commonly used in Sweden, where there's a large number of moose wandering around and crossing drivers' paths.
It was conceived in Sweden back in the 1970s and they still hold it as an important test today.
In the test, researchers used orange cones to set up an S-shaped pattern. The pattern has a sudden, sharp left turn followed by a straightaway.
It's supposed to imitate the path your car would take if you had a moose or other large animal step into your path and had to swerve out of the way and then regain your bearings to continue driving down the road.
The test is performed at 50mph+ to ensure realistic results.
The test isn't an easy one by any means and most vehicles don't pass it on the first go. It is a good way to gauge how a vehicle would react in that situation and if any tweaks need to be made to the vehicle or its safety and performance features.
Don't go basing your vehicle's merit entirely on the Moose Test, either. Remember that in order for your vehicle to react well in these types of situations, you need to ensure that you're using your best defensive driving skills, not engaging in distractions of any type, and are completely focused on the task at hand - driving your Orlando Toyota.
