Is it possible to do paintless dent repair at home?

So you dented your car. We've all been there - whether it's a runaway shopping cart or your distracted driving getting the best of you, dents, dings, and scratches happen. But do you need to visit a body shop to get paintless dent repair handled, or is it something you can do in the comfort of your own garage?

We always say leave it to the experts if you want a seamless repair process and the best looking results (and we just so happen to be paintless dent repair experts here at Toyota of Orlando). However, if you're going to try and tackle this car repair at home DIY style, here are a few methods you can attempt to make use of.

Four paintless dent repair options to try

Method #1: Plunger

Sounds almost silly, but sometimes it works. First, wet the plunger. Next, put it over the dent and create a seal (that's why you have to get it wet). Finally, give it a good pull. If you're lucky, the seal will be strong enough to pop the dent out.

Method #2: Dry ice

This method of paintless dent repair might look like wizardry, but some drivers say it works. Basically, put on a pair of protective gloves and rub a piece of dry ice over the dent for a while. Supposedly, the extreme temperature will make the dent pop out on its own (like magic).

Method #3: Compressed air and a blow dryer.

This one is similar to the dry ice method but adds another element - heat. Take a can of compressed air and spray the dent liberally to get it nice and cold, and then use a blow dryer on the highest heat setting over the dent. The two extremes are supposed to make the dent pop right out on its own.

Method #4: Boiling water.

This one is best used on plastic (like your bumpers). Basically, you pour boiling water over the dent (be careful not to splash on your feet and legs) to make the plastic more malleable. Logically, when it's soft enough, you should be able to pop the dent out yourself using your hands.
