Maintain your car headlights with these five tips

Your car headlights play a double role when it comes to your ride. Not only do they light your way and let other drivers see you coming, but they also play an important role in your car's overall appearance. Let's face it - clouded, hazy headlights make a car look dated and worse for the wear. That's why it's important to maintain them and keep them looking like new for as long as possible, and our Orlando Toyota service techs are here to help. Check out their tips below.

Orlando Toyota tips

Do you know how to maintain your car headlights?

Tip #1: Clean them as a part of your routine. Just like you need to routinely vacuum and wipe the interior of your car and wash and wax the exterior, you need to clean your car headlights to keep them grime free. Wash them when you're washing your car, and use a microfiber cloth to wipe them down in between detailings. Remember, dirty headlights can actually impede your vision.

Tip #2: Don't ignore it when they turn hazy or yellow. Your bulbs may get hazy or yellow as your car ages, and this can definitely make your car look old (as well as knock down your resale value). Either come see our Orlando Toyota service techs for headlight restoration to get the plastic clear again or consider just replacing them altogether.

Tip #3: Replace cracked or broken plastic and bulbs immediately. Don't drive around with cracked or broken headlights... it's not a good look. Not only can you get into trouble and be ticketed for it, but it also devalues your Orlando Toyota.

Tip #4: Align them as needed. Did you know you may actually need to realign your car headlights from time to time to ensure they're pointing in the same direction? Here's how to do it: pull up to a wall so you're facing it and turn your headlights on. They should point to relatively the same height and straight in front of the car. If they don't, then adjust the bulbs until they do.

Tip #5: Replace the bulbs in pairs. You should replace the bulbs in pairs to save yourself the frustration. Usually, when one goes out, the other one isn't far behind (unless one goes out because of an accident). Knock them both out at once and be done with it.
