Toyota introduces a new Tacoma lift kit

If you're a Tacoma enthusiast, owner, driver, or all of the above, get ready to get excited. Toyota just announced that they're releasing an all-new Toyota Tacoma TRD lift kit for the first time ever, and we can't wait to get our hands on it. We've got this scoop on this dealer-installed lift kit and our Orlando Toyota body shop is here to share the details.

TRD lift kit

What will this all-new TRD lift kit have to offer?

As we said, this is a first for Toyota - at least for the Tacoma. Up until now, if you wanted a lift kit on your Tacoma truck you had to use an aftermarket kit. And while there's nothing wrong with that, it does stand to reason that when you use aftermarket parts you're not keeping your Toyota a Toyota and you may not get the same quality or reliability that you would using Toyota parts. Additionally, using aftermarket parts can void existing warranties and the parts may not be completely compatible with your vehicle.

That being said, we're pretty excited for a Toyota lift kit to be added to the mix. Here's what you can expect when you buy this TRD lift kit from a dealer near you.

  • It's an official TRD suspension lift kit that's been developed by Toyota engineers. This means it was crafted to work perfectly with all of the existing parts in the Orlando Toyota Tacoma, including the Toyota Safety Sense System. Additionally, adding it to your truck won't void any existing warranties that you have.

  • The kit adds 2" of lift in the front and 1" in the rear. You'll get better ground clearance - 1.7", to be exact - as well as improved angles. Your approach angle improves +3.1 to 32 degrees, your breakover angle 1.6 to 23 degrees, and your departure angle +0.5 to 24 degrees.

  • The lift kit comprises of new Bilstein monotube shocks with digressive valving; they're cased in red dust boots and "tuned by TRD graphics".

  • The front shocks give you an additional 2" of height due to an adjusted coil spring position on the shock tube, and they have an extended rebound stroke. The rear shocks, on the other hand, give you an additional 1" of height and are significantly larger than standard factory shocks. This means they have more oil volume for improved damping (and better handling tough terrain), larger piston rods and pistons for enhanced strength, and cast-iron spacers.

  • The kit comes with a redesigned grille with heritage-inspired TOYOTA badging and a brand-new millimeter-wave sensor; this makes the kit compatible with the Toyota Safety Sense System.

  • This lift kit is dealer-installed, and it comes with all of the necessary hardware. You can have it installed at time of purchase or after, and the cost is $1,350 (not including labor). It even comes with warranties! If you install at the time of purchase, you'll get a three-year/36,000 mile warranty. If you install after purchase, you'll get a one-year/12,000 mile warranty.
