Ahhh, spring is in the air... and so is the incredible amount of pollen that seems to trail along with the arrival of the new season. While pollen season may seem like a minor annoyance that requires you to water your yard and take an extra Claritin, it actually can do a number on your car if you're not careful. Toyota of Orlando is here with tips on how to handle pollen season and protect your ride from damage.
It may sound dramatic, but pollen can actually do some pretty impressive damage to your car's paint. When you let the pollen sit on the paint, it actually causes oxidization. This can leave stains on your car's paint that are irreversible, which means you'll have to shell out for car paint repairs if you want your vehicle looking like new again. However, it's easy to prevent this type of damage - check out these quick tips from our Orlando Toyota experts.
Tip #1: Prepare your vehicle before the pollen gets here
The best way to head off pollen season damage is to prep your car ahead of time. Be sure that you wash and wax it, using quality car care products. You don't have to break the bank but you should invest in a mid-grade wax that'll last and provide a barrier in between the pollen and your car's paint. Be sure to apply it regularly and before spring actually arrives.
Tip #2: Beef up your car detailing schedule.
When pollen season actually arrives, you should detail your car more often. This will help prevent the pollen from sticking to and damaging your car's paint. Additionally, be sure that you use the right products. Using the wrong soap - like dish soap - can actually strip the wax and protecting layer off your car, leaving it more prone to damage.
Tip #3: Be careful with your parking choices.
Be mindful of where you park during pollen season. Try not to park under trees if you can help it - your best bet is to park inside of a garage or at least under some sort of covered parking to offer your Orlando Toyota a little bit of protection from the elements.
Tip #4: Get under the hood and inside the cabin, too.
Don't forget to give the interior of your car a little TLC, too. During pollen season, you might want to wipe and vacuum it a little more often. And get under the hood! You may need to clean or replace your engine and cabin air filters more often this time of year.
