If you've ever gotten into ANY type of car accident, you know what a hassle it can be, regardless of how it happened. We get it - we see plenty of car accident damage at our Toyota of Orlando body shop. That's why we sat down with our techs to come up with this quick guide; get the info you need about the six most common types of car accidents and how to best avoid them.
Six types of car accidents and how to avoid them
#1: Rear-end collision: This type of car accident is more common than we'd like. It happens when you're driving your Orlando Toyota and run into the back of the car in front of you, usually because they've come to a sudden stop OR you're not paying attention to what's going on. The best way to avoid this type of car accident is to always pay close attention to what you're doing - keep your eyes on the road. It's also a good idea to leave a good amount of distance in between your car and the car in front of you so if they come to a sudden stop, you can, too.
#2: Intersection collision: This type of car accident happens when you pull through an intersection and either hit or are hit by another vehicle. Typically, it happens because someone is speeding through a yellow or red light, or because they're not paying attention while making a turn. To avoid this type of car collision, be sure to avoid speeding through yellow lights and always check the intersection before you pull through to ensure it's totally clear.
#3: Backing out collision: This kind of car accident happens when you back out of a spot or driveway and run into an object or another vehicle. A lot of times, it happens because someone relies only on their backup camera to guide them. The backup camera in your Orlando Toyota is a great tool, but you shouldn't totally rely on it. You should also physically turn and look to see that the way is clear all around you before reversing.
#4: Parking lot damage: It's a terrible feeling to walk out to your car and see damage that wasn't there when you left it. The best way to avoid this type of car accident is to park as far out as you can, where fewer people park (because most drivers want to be close to the entrance of the building). You should also avoid parking near tight turns, blind spots, and anywhere else where a vehicle will have to come super close to your Orlando Toyota.
#5: Weather damage: We get our fair share of bad weather here in Central Florida, and things like high winds and heavy rain can damage your vehicle if you're not careful. This type of car accident can be avoided by watching the weather and parking your car accordingly. Covered or garage parking is best, but you should also look for parking that's on high ground (to avoid flood damage) and away from any trees or poles that could fall on your car.
#6: Windshield damage: Windshield damage most often occurs when a pebble or rock is kicked up by another tire, becoming a small projectile that chips or cracks the glass. It happens most often on the highway and the only real way to avoid it is to leave lots of distance in between your car and the car in front of you just in case they kick up a rock.
