We know that a lot of drivers - most drivers, actually - get a little nervous when they have to visit their car mechanic. Even if there's nothing wrong and it's just for run-of-the-mill car care, what if they find something wrong with your ride? What if it's going to put your car off the road or run up a big bill?
We get it. If you're not overly familiar with what goes on under the hood, then it can be intimidating to schedule service (or even worse, auto repairs). However, if you educate yourself a little bit before your appointment, it can help allay some of your fears. Check out this quick list of seven questions you may want to ask your next Orlando car mechanic to get comfortable with the process.
7 questions to ask next time you schedule car care
#1: Do you offer warranties on your work? You should always ask about warranties when your car is in for repairs with your car mechanic. For example, at our Orlando Toyota body shop, we offer lifetime warranties on both workmanship and paint to give you extra peace of mind. Ask about warranties for labor AND parts before you sign up for anything.
#2: Can you tow my car to your shop? Ask if towing is a possibility - some car mechanics offer this service. Not only will it save you time and money, it's also nice to know that your car is in good hands the entire time it's out of yours.
#3: What is the process like for this service or repair? Whether you're getting auto service or auto repairs done, you should ask your car mechanic what the process is so you have a basic idea of what will happen. This is especially true if you're getting car accident repairs where the insurance company will need to be involved. Stay informed!
#4: How long will it take? They may not be able to give you an exact estimate, but your car mechanic should be able to give you an idea of how long a repair or maintenance item will take and when they can get your Orlando Toyota back on the road.
#5: Can you give me a written record of my repairs? Always ask for a written record of the auto repairs you're getting. This will be handy if you sell or trade it in down the road and you can use it to troubleshoot if you have issues at some point.
#6: Do you use used parts? Always ask your car mechanic if they'll put used parts in your car. They might be cheaper, but we're not big fans. Used car parts are unreliable, can void any existing warranties that you have, and may not be completely compatible with your car, causing performance issues. We only use Toyota parts here at Toyota of Orlando to ensure quality and reliability.
#7: Can you get me a rental car? Ask if your car mechanic can give you a hand in finding a rental car to save you a bit of time and stress, especially if your insurance company is going to be paying for it. We have an office here at Toyota of Orlando that can take care of your rental arrangements for you.
