How to prepare your car for a spring break road trip

Are you thinking about taking to the open highway for a spring break road trip? Road trips are a great way to get out of town without having the high expenses of airfare, and they're also a great way to see the country up close and personal. Whether you're heading to the west coast to hit the beach or getting further out of town, you need to prepare your car accordingly. Check out this quick Orlando Toyota guide to getting your car ready for fun in the sun this spring break.

Toyota of Orlando tips

Six Orlando Toyota tips for your road trip

#1: Check your tires. Make sure your tires are in good shape before you hit the highway for a road trip out of Orlando. You should ensure that they're inflated to the right PSI and that they have enough tread on them to handle the open road and any bad weather you might encounter, like rain, snow, or ice. Also, do a quick inspection to ensure that your car tires don't have any sort of damage like blisters, bulges, sidewall separation, or punctures.

#2: Check your brakes. You'll also want to make sure you're up to date on brake service for your car before a road trip so if you need to come to any sudden stops, you can. Our Orlando auto service techs will check your brake pads, brake lines, brake fluid, and all other components of the system to make sure everything is in good shape.

#3: Check your wipers and wiper fluid. Hopefully, you don't encounter any wet weather on your spring break road trip, but make sure your wiper blades are in good condition and that your wiper fluid reservoir is full of fresh fluid before you go.

#4: Get an oil change. Make sure you get an Orlando oil change so your car has clean, fresh oil to keep the engine cool and lubricated for the entire trip. Remember, you're going to be driving long distances and at high speeds, and your engine needs all the help it can get.

#5: Examine your headlights. Make sure they're shining brightly and pointed correctly, and while you're at it make sure that your taillights and turn signals all work as well. You don't want to get pulled over and ticketed for a burnt-out bulb while you're on your road trip.

#6: Do a battery check. Before you leave Orlando, make sure that your car's battery is in the best shape. Our auto service techs can check the battery's voltage and general condition to ensure it still has a long life and won't die on you when you're out on the open road.
