If you're the owner of a black car, truck, SUV, or minivan, you know how sharp black car paint can look. But you probably also know that keeping your car looking clean and shiny can be a challenge. It seems like you can see every single flaw, blemish, fingerprint, or speck of dirt on a black car, and maintaining the paint over a period of time can become challenging. Toyota of Orlando is here to help - check out our tips on caring for black car paint like a pro!
Tip #1: Park under cover. Parking under cover is always a good idea regardless of your car's paint color because the sun can do major damage over time, fading the paint and causing it to peel. However, black cars have it even worse. The dark hue of the paint absorbs more UV rays than other colors, meaning it's going to fade and deteriorate faster. It's critical to try and park under cover whenever you can, preferably in a garage or under a carport. However, even parking under some trees for a little shade can help slow the process of fading and damage.
Tip #2: Buy a quality wax. Another great way to protect black car paint from the sun is to invest in a quality wax and apply it regularly. This will help ward off UV rays and prevent damage and fading. Not only that, wax acts as a barrier between your car paint and the elements, and can prevent small scratches and chips, as well as keep moisture at bay to help prevent rusting. Remember, all car paint has a white layer underneath it and when you scratch your car, you can see the white underneath. It's even MORE noticeable on a black car. Ask our Toyota of Orlando parts store which wax is right for your car!
Tip #3: Use the right products. Did you know that using a towel or rag that's too rough can actually leave swirls in your car paint? It's so important to use the right products on your car, especially if it's black. Instead of using old t-shirts and towels for cleaning and drying your car, invest in some microfiber cloths. They're too soft to leave swirl marks and do just as good of a job at cleaning.
Tip #4: Keep your car clean as much as you possibly can. An easy and free way to help protect your black car paint is to clean your car as much as you can. We're not talking full detailing (although you'll have to do that, too). Rinse pollen off daily. Scrub off bird poop or dead bugs before they have a chance to do damage. Spray mud off, and always hit your car with the hose after you go to the beach. Keeping your car cleaner will help your car paint last longer.
